Amber Mountian National Park

After taking it relatively easy yesterday, we ventured out to the Amber Mountain National Park, a short (but bumpy) 4x4 drive from the hotel.
The day started off fine and sunny, and we walked about 4km over some comparatively easy terrain, visiting two of the three waterfalls in the area and stumbling upon some more interesting flora and fauna. It was actually a little late in the day to get a close up view of the local lemur population, but we did manage get a passing glimpse of a few in the distance.
It began to rain heavily in the afternoon after lunch, and our English-educated and well spoked guide recommended a hasty departure before the roads disintegrated into mud rivers; it can get extremely dangerous during heavy rainfall (even by 4x4), and the track had already started swirling around us. It was a pretty exciting journey back to the guest house, with wheel-spins and side-slippage aplenty; thankfully our driver was well experienced with such matters and got us home safe and sound.
We arrived back at the guesthouse at about 3pm, and our hosts (who have left us wanting for nothing during our stay), laid some tea on for us whilst the rain settled down.
After a short break, we donned our raincoats and explored the enormous nature reserve adjacent to the hotel. It had been raining quite heavily so it was pretty muddy and very slippery, but we managed to get an excellent view of the nearby coastline despite the miserable weather.
